The Ginger Bread Man Bakery was set up by Gareth Roberts (aka:The Ginger Bread Man) whose love of bread and baking began from a young age. Having completed a baking apprenticeship with Lee's Bakery at aged 16, he caught the baking bug. Gareth worked his way up to Sales Development and Production Manager and then naturally the next step was running his own bakery.

When the opportunity arose in 2012 to bake his own bread from the back of an old Lees Bakery shop at the Halfway, Walton -on-Thames Gareth jumped at the chance. For the next three years, he built up a strong wholesale customer base, including local shops, Cafes. Sandwich bars and canteens and has remained at the Halfway ever since. 

Now Gareth mainly manages the wholesale side of his business but can be seen frequently in the GBM shop. He loves to create new recipes and try out new ideas (the latest Ginger Bread Man creations is our beetroot and caraway seed bread, Delish!)



We operate as a working bakery meaning we have staff onsite 24 hours a day. This also means that many people contribute to the task of selling the freshest (and the best!) bread in Surrey.

From the bakers who prepare the bread throughout the night to the shop assistants that sell that bread throughout the day, everyone plays their part in delivering our products to the local community. (and always with a smile on their faces)


After qualifying as a chef in her early years JoJo, eventually turned to restaurant management taking a break from the baking field. However, after enrolling into a cake decorating class in 2011 she fell in love. Jojo has been baking and creating ever since and opened her own company 'Cakes by JoJo' in 2012. 

She specialises in occasion cakes and models and has Sugarcraft ABC qualifications in cake decorating and wired sugar flowers. 




After much success with his wholesale business, Gareth decided to take over the shop at the Halfway. In December 2015 the Ginger Bread Man Bakery shop opened, offering the locals the chance to buy Gareth's bread straight from the source. Our menu is ever-growing and we like to experiment with new trends and offerings. Breakfast baguettes and sweet treats are available from 7 am. Homemade sandwiches, pizza, hot pastries as well as all our loaves are available Monday to Saturday. 

With the particular success of our Saturday bread sales, Gareth started to expand the offerings. Our vast range of speciality bread is available on Saturdays with plenty of samples to help you choose something new. If you're lucky, you might meet our mascot, the gingerbread man!

We have recently expanded our cake department meaning we are able to offer fresh cakes and baked goods throughout the week in our shop, as well as catering to special occasions and wedding cakes.
